Recently, Rick Warren had a series on envy, which I wrote about last week. After listening to the final lessons in the series, one part just popped out to me as so impactful -- Being who God made you to be; not trying to be someone you weren't made to be.
It is easy to look at someone like LeBron James and know there isn't a chance I could do what he does, so therefore there is really no reason to compare myself to him. There isn't a chance - NO MATTER HOW HARD I WORK! LOL...I am never going to have those talents and skills.
Some things in life just aren't meant to be. We all aren't made to be a pro athlete. Now, there are some things that you don't have just because you haven't tried hard enough, put the time in to have that skill, or you are just plain lazy.
I can relate. All of my life I have wanted to be physically fit, thin, and able to be active and do any type of adventure that I want. The problem? Yep, I didn't do what I needed to do be thin and fit. I was lazy. I didn't put in the work. Now I am taking the action to be more physically fit. I am putting in the time.
You have to be ambitious to make your life count. You have to have dreams, goals and aspirations. You can't give up. You can't just sit in your chair hoping things will magically appear or get better. Most importantly, you can't sit around being bitter that God didn't give you something that he gave another. It wasn't meant for you. But He DID give you something He didn't give another person, the ability to BE WHO YOU WERE MADE TO BE. It is now up to you to make that happen.
Stop sitting around saying "it's not fair!" Yep, it isn't fair that we weren't all born with the skills and talents of LeBron James. But, LeBron could have sat in a chair and did nothing with those talents and they would have been wasted. You don't have to be angry about the gifts that you "believe" you should have that weren't given to you. You need to just be who God made YOU TO BE, and you will ultimately find yourself truly fulfilled because you will be using the skills and talents God gave you. You will make your life count.
So, stop worrying today about what other people have. Stop comparing yourself to others. Stop with the jealousy, anger, resentment and get up and begin to use YOUR talents. We need you to do what God had planned for you, otherwise we are all missing out on something great - YOU!
