Ensuring Victory

There are many great quotes from authors, athletes, mentors, and speakers. But some of the best quotations I have found come from the Bible. Ironically, many of the best quotes we like from our favorite author or speaker aren't quotes of scripture but certainly support biblical teachings.

Proverbs 11:14 is one of those. As many leaders have said, you are only as good as the team you surround yourself with and your ability to listen to understand and then call on them for advice. Without authentic leadership, someone that will walk across the bridge before you to make sure they know the way, and then come report the obstacles and ask for solutions from their team for the best route, a "nation" will fall.

As you read this, I am sure you are thinking of a leader in both situations. One who doesn't lead the way, asking for the best solutions, and one that does. When you have a solid leader with a firm direction, you will run through walls for them. But, when you aren't being led and are left to wander, you eventually fail or abandon that leader -- or, as the biblical scripture says, "the nation falls."

Be courageous, be a leader. Look ahead, report the obstacles, and then gather a team around you to make the best decisions possible. And, when you fail, you fail as a team. Pick yourselves up, dust yourself off, and as my friend and mentor, John Maxwell, says, Fail Forward!
