During my study of Proverbs, which I believe offers the most profound wisdom and guidance for living a meaningful and impactful life, I came across this scripture. It stood out to me, especially in light of the mental health struggles so many face today. Anxiety and depression are at an all-time high, and it's easy to see how a simple, kind word could make a profound difference in someone's life.
What if, today, we each made a deliberate choice to say a kind word to everyone we encounter? Or what if we went a step further and sent an uplifting message or text to 10 or more people—just to let them know we’re thinking of them, or to brighten their day?
Imagine if kindness became as contagious as a "wave" in a sports stadium, spreading from person to person, transforming the atmosphere wherever we go. How many people could we encourage? How many hearts could we lighten, even if just for a moment?
And even if it’s only one person who benefits from that kind word or gesture—just one—perhaps that one person needed it more than we could ever know. That one person might have been on the verge of giving up, or silently carrying a heavy burden. Maybe, just maybe, our act of kindness was exactly what they needed at that moment.
Let’s not underestimate the power of a kind word. It can uplift, heal, and even change the course of someone's day—or life. And, in the process, it might just change ours as well.
