As I was listening to a podcast by Rick Warren today, he spoke about rest; and the importance of it. He also talked a lot about how to know if your are a workaholic...
Yes, for those of you who have known me for many years, especially during the ones where I was building a business, I was often described as a "workaholic" or "not human" for how many hours I worked, and how little I slept. I was proud of it.
Looking back? I couldn't have been more wrong, and more importantly, more unfair to my family and the people who worked around me.
Almost five years ago, I made a huge shift in my morning routine and sleep patterns. (I really can't believe it's been that long!). I now take the time to take care of "me," which we referred to at the office as "taking care of the asset (yourself) first."
I definitely lived many years with a "misplaced identity," being as my identity was my work and not in God. I now can confirm Rick's teaching that "the difference between blessed and stressed, is rest."
That brings me to my morning routine of 30+ minutes of exercise each morning and 60+ minutes of prayer. I also make sure to listen to some sort of positive audio/podcast/book while I am getting ready. If I can do all of that before I start my day, I am a better person. I live with much less chaos and stress. and I can give God my BEST!
Many people laugh at how many books I travel with, but I will even give up traveling with my pillows before I give up my books that feed me each day.
Off I go to write my letter to God, and study these books...
