How does one "Holy Moment" of kindness create a domino effect? You may never know.
One simple act of kindness may change the trajectory of someone's life. This happened. I witnessed it. A friend asked a woman who stood outside the Changing Lives booth at an event we were hosting if she was okay. She said she wasn't in a good place emotionally and didn't want to enter our booth. My friend continued to talk to her and pour hope into her. A few other kind acts by some of the friends she was with, combined with my friend taking the time to invest in her, her life was changed. A short series of events that started at that moment and over the next 24 hours gave her hope.
Little did we know that she planned to take her life the following week. She told us a little over a month later that the events, the domino effect of holy moments (good deeds), changed her path. They gave her hope. Hope not to take her life and keep moving forward.
When you are devastated by hatred, injustice, personal suffering, or maybe illness, you can lose faith in yourself, in the world, and, for that matter, in God. But little acts of kindness and investment in another human can create a domino effect of hope.
What is hope? Matthew Kelly, in the book "Holy Moments," describes hope as "The belief that good things lie ahead. It is a combination of desire and expectation. It is the confidence that something wonderful is possible."

I can share a personal testimony about how an act of kindness brought me out of a "hard place" and into the space of joy and peace. I was feeling low, and a good friend, Michele sent me a beautiful card and gift in the mail. She reminded me that I am loved and cared for at all times by the Lord. Her words were exactly what I needed. My plan is to pass this along and help someone else today. Let's all help someone, anyone we see who may be low. We all need hope.
