The word “discernment” seems to be circling me these days! I recently realized when talking with a friend in Dakar that I am constantly taking “in” information and not really sitting still long enough to “hear” what God is telling me. I haven’t been “tuned in” to really listening for where God is leading me. I haven't been concentrating.
Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Proverbs 2:2
Now, let me say this, I do feel led by God, but often times I try and take over, or I run way ahead of Him. Or, I start running in the wrong direction. Not necessarily a bad direction, but one that isn’t focused on Him.
The scripture in today’s devotional by Joyce Meyer was spot on! One that I needed to hear. Also, one that my friend in Dakar reminded me of. What I keep hearing is “be still” (Psalm 46:10), and take time to listen. I don’t always need to have input coming into my head, I can just be quiet with the Lord!
Then, after I read the devotional about discernment, I opened up a devotional by Rick Warren, and it says to take advantage of “wasted moments.” Ha! Now that I am really good at! I am constantly filling my brain with podcasts, books, music, something - anything.
The message I am hearing today is BALANCE. Balance is critical. I need to balance my inputs and my quiet time with God. I need to be quiet long enough to realize who God is and what his will is for my life.
You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail. Proverbs 19:21
I have to say thank you God for the devotional inputs you gave me this morning. Now, I am going to take time to “TUNE IN” and listen quietly to what you are saying.
